The Pride Jazzy Air 2 is not an ordinary power wheelchair.
Its defining feature is the ability to raise the user up to 12 inches while remaining seated, bringing them closer to countertops, cabinets, shelves, work surfaces, and the people around them.
Even more importantly, the Jazzy Air 2 can continue driving at speeds of up to 4 mph while elevated.
But an elevating seat alone doesn't make a power wheelchair the right choice.
Comfort, maneuverability, range, transportation, seating, serviceability, and how you plan to use the chair every day matter just as much.
After looking at power seat elevation throughout our Elevating Power Wheelchair Resource Series, let's take a closer look at the Jazzy Air 2 and what it's actually like to own one.

The Feature That Defines the Jazzy Air 2
Let's start with the obvious feature.
The Jazzy Air 2 provides 12 inches of power seat elevation.
According to Pride Mobility, the chair can reach full elevation in approximately 11 seconds.
That additional height can make a significant difference when interacting with an environment largely designed around standing adults.
It may provide easier access to:
- Kitchen countertops
- Cabinets
- Store shelves
- Clothing racks
- Work surfaces
- Reception counters
It can also bring the user closer to eye level when talking with someone who's standing.
If you're new to power seat elevation, we recommend reading our earlier guide, Elevating Power Wheelchairs: What You Need to Know, where we explain why adjustable seat height can be such an important feature.
You Can Drive While Elevated
This is one of the Jazzy Air 2's standout features.
Pride rates the chair for speeds of up to 4 mph in both the elevated and non-elevated positions.
Why does that matter?
Imagine using the chair in your kitchen. You elevate to reach something on the counter, then need to move several feet to another part of the kitchen. Instead of lowering the chair, repositioning, and raising it again, the Air 2 can remain elevated while you move on appropriate surfaces.
The same concept applies when moving along store shelves, work areas, or during social activities.
As with any elevating power wheelchair, users should always follow Pride's instructions regarding terrain, slopes, elevated operation, and safe use.
How Maneuverable Is the Jazzy Air 2?
The Jazzy Air 2 uses Pride's Mid-Wheel 6 drive system.
The drive wheels are positioned near the center of the wheelchair, which helps the chair turn around its own central area instead of swinging through a large arc like some front-wheel or rear-wheel drive designs.
Pride currently lists the turning radius at approximately 24.25 inches, with an overall power base width of approximately 23.25 inches.
That combination makes the Air 2 well suited to many indoor environments, including homes, stores, restaurants, offices, and other areas where maneuverability matters.
Of course, every home is different. Before purchasing any full-size power wheelchair, measure your doorways, hallways, bathroom access, and other tight spaces.
Mid-Wheel 6 and Active-Trac Suspension
The Air 2 combines Mid-Wheel 6 technology with Pride's Active-Trac suspension.
This is important because the chair isn't designed only for smooth indoor flooring. The suspension system helps the power base respond to common surface transitions and everyday outdoor environments.
For owners who move between indoor and outdoor spaces throughout the day, suspension can make a noticeable difference in ride quality.
The Air 2 is still a power wheelchair, not an off-road vehicle, so realistic expectations are important. Sidewalks, parking lots, paved paths, stores, homes, and similar everyday environments are much different from deep gravel, mud, rough trails, or aggressive terrain.
How Fast Is the Jazzy Air 2?
The maximum speed is approximately 4 mph.
That isn't especially fast compared with some mobility scooters, but speed isn't really what the Air 2 is designed around. Its strengths are maneuverability, stability, seating, indoor and outdoor versatility, and vertical mobility.
More importantly, the chair maintains its rated maximum speed of up to 4 mph while elevated. For someone interested specifically in power seat elevation, that may be more valuable than having a higher top speed when the seat is lowered.
How Far Can It Travel?
Pride currently rates the Jazzy Air 2 for:
- Up to 15 miles per charge at 300 pounds
- Up to 16.6 miles per charge at 220 pounds
These figures should be viewed as estimates rather than guarantees. Real-world range varies based on user weight, terrain, battery condition, temperature, driving habits, and other factors.
For typical daily use around the home, shopping, restaurants, appointments, and community activities, the Air 2 provides a useful amount of range. Someone who regularly travels very long distances should consider their daily mileage carefully before choosing any power wheelchair.
Weight Capacity
The Jazzy Air 2 has a 300-pound weight capacity.
That makes it appropriate for many users, but it's important to choose a wheelchair with adequate capacity for the individual using it. Weight capacity shouldn't be treated as a target. If you're approaching the maximum capacity of a particular chair, it may be worth comparing other models that provide additional capacity and seating options.
Seating and Comfort
A power wheelchair can have incredible technology and still be the wrong chair if the seat isn't comfortable.
The Air 2 offers several high-back seat sizes, including configurations around:
- 16 inches wide
- 18 inches wide
- 20 inches wide
Depending on configuration, seat depth can also be adjusted. Pride provides adjustable armrests and an adjustable headrest, along with a reclining high-back seating option.
The redesigned lift system also provides a lower starting seat-to-floor height than the original Jazzy Air, which helps users sit more comfortably at standard tables and desks.
This is an important detail. Maximum elevation gets most of the attention, but the lowest seating position matters too.
LED Lighting
The Air 2 includes LED lighting designed to improve visibility.
Lighting may seem like a minor feature until you use a power chair in parking areas, hallways, stores, or outdoor environments in lower light. It's one of those everyday features that may become more useful after owning the chair than it initially appears on a specification sheet.
Under-Seat Storage
The Air 2 also includes an under-seat front storage compartment.
Again, this isn't the feature that sells the chair, but practical storage becomes important when a wheelchair is being used throughout the day. Phones, keys, wallets, medications, and other small personal items need somewhere to go. Additional wheelchair accessories can provide even more storage depending on how the chair is used.
The Biggest Consideration: Transportation
If there's one thing we'd want every buyer to understand before purchasing the Jazzy Air 2, it's this:
This is not a lightweight travel power chair.
Pride lists the heaviest piece at approximately 202 pounds with the seat installed, before accounting for the batteries. The chair uses two 12-volt U1 batteries as standard, with optional 40 Ah batteries available.
This isn't a chair most people are going to disassemble and put into the trunk of a car. Transportation may require:
- A vehicle-mounted power lift
- A platform lift
- A wheelchair-accessible van
- A ramp-equipped vehicle
If you regularly transport your power wheelchair, determine how you'll move the Air 2 before purchasing it. For some buyers, this is the single most important consideration.
What About the Batteries?
The Jazzy Air 2 uses two 12-volt batteries and a 5-amp off-board charger.
These are traditional power wheelchair batteries rather than the small removable lithium batteries found in many lightweight travel chairs. That contributes to the chair's weight, but it also reflects what the Air 2 is designed to be — a full-size everyday power wheelchair with an elevating seating system, not a folding travel chair.
Owners should follow Pride's battery charging and storage recommendations to help maintain battery performance and service life.
Is the Jazzy Air 2 Good Outdoors?
For normal everyday outdoor use, it can be.
The combination of Mid-Wheel 6 technology, Active-Trac suspension, solid drive wheels, and front and rear casters gives the Air 2 the ability to transition between indoor and common outdoor environments.
But "outdoor capable" shouldn't be confused with "off-road." Smooth sidewalks, paved paths, parking lots, and similar surfaces are very different from deep grass, loose gravel, mud, steep hills, or rough trails.
Also remember that operating conditions can change when the seat is elevated. Always follow Pride's operating instructions.
What Is It Like Around the House?
This is where the Air 2's design really starts to make sense.
You can move through the home at normal seat height and then elevate when additional height is useful. That might mean raising yourself while:
- Preparing food
- Reaching a cabinet
- Using a countertop
- Looking into a mirror
- Accessing a closet
- Working at certain surfaces
Then lower the chair again when elevation isn't needed. Instead of being locked into one seating height all day, the chair adapts to different situations.
Who Is the Jazzy Air 2 Best For?
We think the Air 2 makes the most sense for someone who:
- Wants power seat elevation as an everyday feature
- Spends significant time in their power wheelchair
- Values indoor maneuverability
- Wants to drive while elevated
- Uses the chair both inside and outside
- Appreciates a traditional high-back power chair seat
- Has a transportation plan for a full-size power wheelchair
- Wants to interact with people and environments at different heights
For the right person, the elevation system isn't a novelty. It becomes part of how they use the wheelchair throughout the day.
Who Should Consider Something Else?
The Air 2 won't be the right chair for everyone. You may want to consider another type of power wheelchair if:
- You frequently lift your chair into a vehicle
- You need a lightweight folding wheelchair
- Airline travel is a major priority
- You require more than a 300-pound weight capacity
- You primarily need rough terrain capability
- You don't expect to benefit from seat elevation
A lighter folding power wheelchair may be much more practical for someone whose highest priority is transportation. Likewise, someone who needs heavy-duty capacity or specialized rehabilitation seating may be better served by another type of power chair.
Things We Like About the Jazzy Air 2
What makes the Air 2 interesting isn't simply that the seat rises. It's how Pride integrated elevation into an everyday power wheelchair. We particularly like:
- 12 inches of power seat elevation
- Full elevation in approximately 11 seconds
- Up to 4 mph while elevated
- Mid-Wheel 6 maneuverability
- Active-Trac suspension
- Multiple seating options
- Adjustable armrests and headrest
- LED lighting
- Useful everyday range
- 300-pound capacity
Taken together, these features make the Air 2 much more than a chair with a lift attached to it.
Things to Consider Before Buying
There are also several things we'd think carefully about:
Transportation
It's a heavy chair. Have a transportation plan.
Home dimensions
Measure your doors, hallways, bathroom, bedroom, and other important spaces.
Seat fit
Choose the correct seat width and depth rather than simply selecting the largest seat available.
Terrain
Be realistic about where you'll use the chair.
Service
Understand who will service the wheelchair if it eventually needs repair.
Insurance
The standard Jazzy Air 2 is currently listed by Pride under HCPCS K0899. Don't assume that because it has power seat elevation it follows the same Medicare reimbursement pathway as other medically coded elevating chairs.
We cover Medicare and power seat elevation in our guide, Will Medicare Pay for an Elevating Power Wheelchair?
Is the Jazzy Air 2 Worth Considering?
If power seat elevation would genuinely improve how you interact with your home, workplace, stores, restaurants, family, and community, the Jazzy Air 2 deserves serious consideration.
Its strongest feature isn't simply that it raises 12 inches. It's that the chair remains a functional mobility device while elevated. You can raise yourself closer to the world around you and continue moving at speeds up to 4 mph on appropriate surfaces.
That's what separates useful seat elevation from elevation that simply looks impressive on a specification sheet.
Final Thoughts
The Pride Jazzy Air 2 is a specialized power wheelchair designed around a simple idea:
Mobility shouldn't only move forward and backward. Sometimes moving up matters too.
Its 12 inches of power seat elevation can change how someone reaches everyday surfaces, interacts with people, and navigates environments designed around standing height.
Combined with Mid-Wheel 6 technology, Active-Trac suspension, adjustable seating, useful driving range, and the ability to drive while elevated, the Air 2 offers an unusual combination of mobility and vertical access.
But it's still important to look beyond the elevation feature. Consider transportation, home dimensions, seating comfort, battery care, service, and where you actually plan to use the wheelchair.
If those pieces fit your lifestyle and power seat elevation would provide a meaningful benefit, the Jazzy Air 2 can offer something a traditional fixed-height power wheelchair simply can't.
